Keaau’s Haaheo Chan and Waiakea’s Kayed Rodrigues each earned silver medals Saturday at the Hawaii High School Athletic Association wrestling championships at Blaisdell Center in Honolulu.

Chan pinned St. Louis’ Logan Sanborn in the 195-pound semifinal before losing to Kamehameha-Kapalama’s Boman Tokiola for the title. Rodrigues won his first three matches via decision, but Kapolei’s Moses Wiseman claimed the 182 final.

Three Big Island Interscholastic Federation boys wrestlers fell in the semifinals. Waiakea’s Alan Ikehara (152) rebounded to finish third, the Warriors’ William Spain (120) was sixth and Hawaii Prep’s Russell Laros (195) was fourth.

Ka Makani’s Keenan Greenbaum reeled off four straight wins in the consolation bracket to finish third at 285, two spots ahead of the Cougars’ Zephaniah Pavao.

BIIF girls wrestlers had a rough go of it Friday when none were able to reach the semifinals, but five finished as medalists: Hilo’s Shaylyn Arakaki (fourth, 97) and Lahi Kanakanui (fourth, 155); Keaau’s Ashlee Lopez (fourth, 130); Honokaa’s Kamele Sanchez (fifth, 135); and Kealakehe’s Destiny Masters (sixth, 121).
